Round 5.5 - Fido, "Language", Fic (○)
Pseudonym: Fido
Title: Language
Characters: Isumi, Nase
Rating: PG
Summary: Isumi comes back from China and appreciates Nase's language.
"So how was China?" and "Are the pros there strong?" and "You're going to take the pro exam again this year, right?" --are the questions Isumi expects and indeed the questions he gets one summer afternoon in Waya's cramped little apartment. He looks between Komiya and Fuku and Honda and smiles into his plastic cup of flat soda.
"Is the food good?" Nase asks.
The boys all turn to her with varying levels of disapproval at such an inane question. Nase raises her eyebrows expectantly.
"I guess," Isumi says, almost laughing.
"You should take me next time," she says boldly. "I'd enjoy some authentic Szechuan spice."
Isumi looks into her proud, grinning face as her flushing lips close over another spoonful of curry. He has to look away rather quickly. Apparently he missed girls who speak his language a lot more than he realized. (Earlier, she'd said, "I missed you", too.)
"I'm no good with spicy stuff," he says, clearing his throat and indicating his own unfinished plate. "Uhm, thanks for buying lunch anyway."
Nase throws away his thanks and instead says, "I could train you to like it."
"Nase," Shindo interrupts impatiently. "He's been training with Chinese go pros all this time and you're thinking about food?"
Nase huffs without losing that smile or taking her eyes off Isumi for more than a second. "You're such a dorky little kid. There's more to life than just go. Right, Isumi-san?"
She gives Isumi the tiniest of winks. Feeling rather hot, he tugs at his collar and contemplates wondrously how just a few months of absence made words so novel and a girl into a woman.
