I admit that I'm rather fond of the idea of a friendship between Akiko and Mitsuko. They seem to be even more different than Hikaru and Akira are, but I like to think that they'd make a point to get together as a means of keeping track of the changes in their sons' lives. I imagine an awkward beginning during which they enquire as to one another's hobbies and find zero common interests or backgrounds, and then a slow connection forming as they turn the conversation to their sons.
